10 Myths about Oriental Rugs

When it comes to oriental rugs they seemed to be steeped in mysteries of the East. It can start with a rug retailer giving a “little story” with the rug to enhance the sale. Or just wrong information which is repeated so many times it takes on a life of its own. So like Myth Busters on television let’s bust a few rug myths.

Rug Myth Number One: Oriental rugs are identified only by design. Design is only one component used to identify rugs. Construction, how the rug is put together, is the method used to identify all rugs. Look at the back to first determine if it is machine-made, hand-knotted, flat-weave or some other specialty rug. (The how-to of this has been discussed in past articles – July 2007 and August 2006).

Rug Myth Number Two: All oriental rugs appreciate in value. Most post-World War II rugs do not appreciate in value, nor will most rugs purchased new today appreciate in value. Consumers most likely paid more for some rugs in the 60’s and 70’s than they are worth today. The 90 line 9 x 12 Chinese rugs purchased in the early 1980’s for $4,000 can be found for under $1,000 today.

Rug Myth Number Three: All old rug rugs are worth a lot. Condition is most important when determining value. An old rug in poor condition is just an old rug in need of a good professional rug cleaning. An old rug in good condition may also be without value if it lacks artistic merit. However, some old rugs are worth repairing and the value will increased with proper restoration.

Rug Myth Number Four: Persian (Iranian) rugs are better than rugs from other countries. Some older, traditional Persian rugs pre-WWII, such as Ferahan Sarouk, Motashem Kaskan, Tabriz, Bijar, Heriz, certain tribal pieces, and other well constructed semi-antiques will always have a market in the right condition. Since the fall of the Shah in 1979 and the embargo on Persian goods in 1987 (which was lifted in March, 1999), other countries have improved and increased their output of rugs. The quality of Persian rugs since the early 1970’s has gradually deteriorated. There are certain notable exceptions such as rugs produced and exported by Miri & Jalili in South Persia (show room in the San Francisco design center). Time will tell if the overall quality will return. If it does it will be smaller quantities and at higher prices. It will be a big job as has they have a lot of catching up to do.

Rug Myth Number Five: Never vacuum oriental rugs. About 80 per cent of soil in rugs is dry particulate matter. It acts as sandpaper and wears the rug. Some rugs have a thick pile, if they are not regularly vacuumed and cleaned, the soil will become so embedded it becomes a difficult task to finally remove all of it. You should caution your customers to vacuum parallel to get the rug cleaner and so to not damage the fringe.

Rug Myth Number Six: Knot count is the best indication of value. The value of only a few traditional Persian rugs is partially determined by knot count. Examples are Nain and Isfahan. The value of silk rugs is also partially based on knot count. New, mass-produced rugs from China, India, and Pakistan come in a variety of qualities and designs. However, once these mass-produced rugs are used, their value in the secondary market is not based on knot count.

Rug Myth Number Seven: Oriental rugs should never be wet cleaned. A well constructed Oriental Rug can certainly be wet cleaned after first doing a pre-cleaning inspection including a colorfastness test. What should be avoided is cleaning rugs in the customer’s home unless there are extenuating circumstances such as size, weight or furniture, etc. The Oriental Rug Importers of America recommends that hand-made rugs be cleaned every 2 to 4 years, based on traffic, spills, pets, and the indoor environment.

Rug Myth Number Eight: Oriental rugs should never have a protector applied. This idea that somehow a fluorochemical will devalue a rug is just a plain old myth. Rug protectors do not make them bulletproof, but allow blotting up of spills to be much more effective and can prevent spots from becoming stains.

Rug Myth Number Nine: Rug pad is a waste of money. Rug pad provides a protective layer between the rug and the floor. It helps minimize slippage, increases the life of the rug, makes the rug feel thicker and more luxurious, smoothes out irregularities in the floor, and absorbs noise. The best pads for hardwood floors have a layer of synthetic felted material with rubber coating on the backside.

Rug Myth Number Ten: Silk rugs are a great floor covering. Silk rugs (or most anything silk) are expensive. Silk rugs are not practical to use on the floor. They are not as durable and because certain manufactures use poor quality silk and dyes, they cannot be cleaned as invasively as good wool rugs. Once they become quite soiled, it is difficult to restore them to their original appearance. Though they can be beautiful, they are best used a wall decoration.

As a former rally car driver, Marcus Grönholm would particularly enjoy the sporty design of this watch. Just notice how the slick design incorporates the ideals of athleticism in the field of watches. There is no doubt in my mind that this watch truly embodies those tr…

What fascinates me the most about this multi-eye sports watch is that the make of this model is motivated by Marcus Grönholm. As a former rally car driver, Marcus Grönholm would particularly enjoy the sporty design of this watch. Just notice how the slick design incorporates the ideals of athleticism in the field of watches. There is no doubt in my mind that this watch truly embodies those tr…

How to maintain, clean, and keep your Oriental Rug looking at its best

You’ve just bought an Oriental rug and it really ties the room together. Now you probably want your new rug to last years to come. No problem. You just have to follow a few simple instructions in order to make the most out of your rug’s life and durability.

Of course that there are some issues that can not be avoided. Rugs, unlike most of our purchases, are made to be walked on. So the best and first thing to do is to ask your family to remove their shoes while in the house. Most of the dirt and wear of rugs is a direct result of the surprises we carry on our soles (by the way in Persia, nobody keeps their shoes on while inside).

But still, there are guests and pets and kids and food and you don’t really know what the cat’s going to drag in tomorrow.

Rotate

Although Oriental carpets come from a land of a thousand suns, rugs do not like direct sunlight and they tend to fade out. So just like you do with your mattress, try to rotate the carpet from time to time and prevent wear and color fade from happening in the same areas. Rotating a carpet a couple of times a year can help you maintain the rug’s value and look.

Vacuum Regularly

Vacuum rugs often, and do it on both sides. Try to use the vacuum nozzle instead of a beater bar and whatever you do – don’t shake them! Shaking Oriental Rugs leads to thread and knots damage. When you vacuum, don’t skip areas that are hidden under furniture. Moths love those dark, quiet places and moths’ eggs just love to consume rugs.

Know Rug First Aid

There’s nothing to do about it – sooner or later a glass of wine will spill, coffee will drip, the kid’s soda, and the dog that couldn’t wait… It is very important to master the rules of rug first-aid and act as quickly as humanly possible in order to prevent stains and heavy smells. Before the spill begins to dry, clean the area with a wet paper towel. Then use a mix of water and vinegar if you want to prevent color damage.

Get a Rug Pad

A rug pad is also recommended and can help prevent slippage, act as a buffer to minimize abrasion and protect your floors. A good quality pad will also provide airflow between your floor and the rug and airflow allows the rug to breathe, which in turn will extend the rug’s life. Rug pads may also prevent the crushing and wearing of pile after heavy use.

Original Oriental rugs can be a smart investment if you keep them in a good shape. Your rug will increase in value, since well maintained rugs are harder and harder to find these days. If you still need help with your rug cleaning or restoration, turn to a professional Oriental rug dealer such as www.1800GeatA Rug.com where you will find experienced importers and wholesalers of beautiful rugs from all over the world.

Best chicago neighborhood for young married couples?

My husband and I are moving to Chicago this summer. We come from Ohio and this will be a big change for us. We are so overwhelmed with the apartment search. We honestly don’t know where to begin. We are looking for a safe and semi-quiet neighborhood where it’s easy walking distance to grocery stores, shops, restaurants, coffeehouses, etc. We don’t drink so bars are not needed. We’d like to live in a more “family-oriented” neighborhood since we plan on starting a family in a few years. Any help would be great because this search is so overhwleming!

As half of a young married couple myself, I’d say Lincoln Square or someplace around the Southport Corridor. Both are on the North Side of the city. Lincoln Square is a little further north and a little bit west. Both have cute shops and restaurants. There are also a good number of families in both areas. The Southport Corrider is technically part of Lakeview but it’s one of the tamer sections (as opposed to Wrigleyville).

I’d also suggest Andersonville for all the reasons the other posters have mentioned. It’s actually pretty close to Southport and Lincoln Square so you can’t go wrong with either of the neighborhoods.

Single family houses in all three neighborhoods are relatively expensive (starting at $800k) but you can find a 3 bedroom for around $450-$500k.

Korea Flowers

Flowers significant to representing nations stand out distinct among the rests. In Korea, a large number of various breeds of flowers are cultivated each year. Some types add to the glee of festivals while some serve better toning down grief. But, the rose of Sharon enjoys a distinct status of being national flower. Koreans have loved this kind of rose for centuries. The rose of Sharon also appears in national emblems. Also noteworthy is the fact that Korea flower arrangement is being revived as an indoor art. http://koreaflowerdelivery.com/ Mostly use simple Joseon dynasty whiteware to draw attention towards various kinds of Korean flowers. Tree branches are also played with in elegant but unforced natural arrangements.

The rose of Sharon is much loved as the national flower of Korea. Korea is compared poetically to the rose of Sharon in the South Korean national anthem. Sharon’s symbolic significance is stemmed from the Korean word “Mugung”, meaning immortality. The Korean national flower symbolizes the strong and simple spirit of the Korean people who have endured the nation’s long and often difficult history. As of records, the country has treasured the rose of Sharon as a heavily flower since ancient times. Not just a flower, Sharon is a popular ornamental shrub at the same time. Some of notable cultivators of Korean flowers include Diana, Lady Stanley, Ardens, Lucy, and Blushing Bride.

Korea truly brims with colourful flowers throughout the year. You may witness a bunch of flower shops at every attraction. Each flower shop stands out different for keeping unique designs of koreon flowers than the other. Korean flowers are arranged in an array of designs for every occasion. Be it a wedding ceremony or a festival, a friend’s birthday or just a well-wish, a morning or health wish, you name it and Korea will provide you a diverse arrangement of Korean flowers to choose from. Stroll through any flower shop and let yourself be refreshed by the sweet smelling of nature’s gifts.

Over a period of time, the outdoor art and Korean flower exhibitions have gained momentum. Today, there are at least a dozen schools of traditional flower arrangements putting together Korean flowers exhibitions and displays. Im WhaKong of Ewha Woman’s University in Seoul is the greatest living exponent of this art. In order to keeping the outdoor arts traditional alive in Korea, Im Whakong plays host to quarterly displays of flower arrangements. Exhibitions putting on display Korean flowers attract a large number of people to come, see and appreciate the natural wealth of Korea. These events also encourage visitors to volunteer programs, specifically designed to preserve flowers.

Every year, a profusion of Korean Flowers blossoms grace the entire country. The rose of Sharon or Mugunghwa blossoms from June to October. Reflecting the perseverance and determination that the Korean people have demonstrated throughout their long history, the rose of Sharon is hailed as remarkably tenacious and is able to withstand both blight and insects. Today, there are over 100 cultivars of the rose of Sharon indigenous to Korea. Koreans cherish and care for the flowers as they symbolize the many glory the country has experienced.

Seoul Capital of South Korea

Seoul, the flourishing capital of South Korea, was moulded way back in the 14th century during the Joseon dynasty. At first glance, it is a big, crowded, noisy mega city full of glass and concrete sky scrapers and traffic clogged multi lane highways. The sleek skyscrapers scattered throughout the city combines with the old palaces and shrines, leaving such a sight to behold.

Seoul is by far the largest city in South Korea and the unquestioned economic, political and cultural hub of the country. An ever growing population of nearly 10 million people, making it the fifth largest city in the world.

Seoul is located in the northwest corner of the country. It border with North Korea is only about 40km from the city centre. Seoul was given its present name in 1945, and was chosen to be the capital of the Republic of Korea in 1948.

Experiencing everything Korean, from the bawdy red light districts to the calm traditional teahouse any time of the day makes Seoul an adventure worth taking.

To experience the traditional culture of Korea while remaining in the heart of the city, try Insa dong. With art galleries, traditional craft stores, antique art dealers, traditional tea houses and traditional restaurants it is simply the place for tourists wanting to experience traditional Korea. The area is especially good for finding antiques in old paintings, ceramics, wooden vessels, and antique furniture can all be found in abundance at Insa dong. The 70 or so art galleries in the area also make Insa dong ideal as a cultural space.

Modern design and technology can be witnessed simultaneously in the Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art which opened last October. Designed by a trio of daring western architects, it features a childrens museum by Rem Koolhaas, a contemporary art gallery by Jean Nouvel and Mario Bottos terracotta twin towers tamped to the brim with Buddhist relics. The museum will even lend you a palmtop computer to guide you round the childrens museum and entrance to the exhibitions is free

There are plenty of places to shop.

A temperate climate in the summer months of June to September you should expect temperatures of around 20 degrees. Autumn lasts from September to November and you should expect warm days and cool nights. In the winter months of December to March you should expect temperatures to very low with an average of 0 degrees.

Nuclear Desalination In Australia

Australia needs to consider Nuclear Desalination as a part of the Nuclear Energy Debate

Australia can decide to become energy, and financially, rich due to the use of its abundant supply of uranium that can be either used locally in home grown Nuclear power plants or sold as a refined product on the world market. The decision is in the hands of the Australian people through their elected representatives. There are additional issues that need to be addressed in parallel with the above issues. The Desalination of Seawater using Nuclear Power and its benefits need to be considered in any discussion of Nuclear Power in Australia.

Large areas of Australia have been in moderate to severe drought conditions for fifteen of the last twenty years.[1] It seems possible that Australia will join the African region, Latin America and South East Asia as an area suffering moderate to sever water shortages.[2]

Desalination is a possible solution to these shortages in Australia. In the past it has not been seen as an economical solution to local water shortages. However, given, the, potential, change in public opinion, attitude and the necessary economic consideration of Nuclear Energy and Uranium mining and refinement, desalination of seawater using Nuclear Energy must be considered at the same time.

By 2025, about two thirds of the world population may suffer sever water shortages. Fresh, potable, water will become an internationally marketable product.[3]

Desalination of seawater using Nuclear Power is not new and currently there are 13 reactors operating, in 4 countries, with a combined 247 reactor-years experience.[4] The cost of nuclear desalinated water is about 40 cents per kiloliter[5] and while this is 20 to 30 times as much as we are already paying, these costs could be lower for Australia as we have our own uranium. Even given the costs as shown, it is only a matter of time until it becomes cost effective.

The International Atomic Energy Agency is currently conducting research into Nuclear Desalination and the International Nuclear Desalination Advisory Group advises that another 13 countries are conducting research and feasibility studies. These countries are Argentina, Canada, China, Egypt, France, India, Israel, South Korea, Libya, Morocco, Pakistan, Russian Federation and United States. There is also major International Collaboration underway between Indonesia and Korea, Rep of, Tanzania and France, Pakistan and Various International Bodies, Morocco and France, Russia and Canada and lastly Eurodesal.[6]

It is evident Nuclear Desalination is being considered world wide. Australia has 38% of the worlds know Uranium resources and is about to make a national decision regarding its use. Public awareness that the potential of Nuclear Desalination can solve all of Australia’s future water requirements as well as, allowing Australia to convert large amounts of inhospitable land into an arable and profitable resource will ease the resistance currently being shown by a percentage of the population.

The public must be apprised of the benefits of Nuclear Desalination, while considering the Nuclear Energy issue.

Under what conditions would North Korea launch a nuclear weapon at another state?

There’s a lot of talk on North Korea’s nuclear development, but not a lot of talk as to where or why they would use a nuclear device offensively. Aside from rhetorical commentary on Kim Jong Il’s mental status or personal ambitions, what specific scenarios for nuclear launch exist?

The Oriental Shorthair Cat

Oriental Shorthair is a feline breed that has occurred in Thailand, alongside the Siamese, for a long time as a self-colored cat and was brought over with other cats from the Orient to Britain in nineteenth century. Even as it was initially just considered a non-pointed version of the Siamese, the Oriental Shorthair gained formal recognition only in the twentieth century when, in the fifties, development of the cat was started through breeding with Abyssinians, Domestic Shorthairs, Russian Blues and Siamese. The cat was termed as ‘Foreign’ in United Kingdom and ‘Oriental’ in United States. It was another two decades before official recognition and championship status was given to the graceful cat. Today it is registered and recognized as a distinct entity in nearly all cat fancies around the world. Occasionally, as in the case of Cat Fanciers’ Association, it is coupled with its sister breed, the Oriental Longhair, into a single breed called simply the Oriental.

A svelte and finely built animal, the Oriental Shorthair is amongst the most attractive of all domestic cats. Its lithe, tubular body appears slender but is in fact quite well muscled. Head is wedge shaped with large pointed ears and slanted almond shaped eyes that occur in blue or green colors. Legs and tail are long. Coat of the Oriental Shorthair occurs in an amazing array of colors and patterns, with over three hundred variations recognized. Combinations include bi-color, parti-color, shaded, smoke, solid and tabby.

Like their longhair counterparts Oriental Shorthairs are prone to certain ailments in some of their lines. These include dental disorder, Amyloidosis of liver and dilated cardiomyopathy. These conditions are rare overall though and generally the cats live a long healthy life of fifteen years or more.

Oriental Shorthairs are very curious and intelligent. They like to explore everything and are not shy to open cabinets and get on top of cupboards to satisfy their natural inquisitiveness. They are athletic and maintain their active, playful lifestyle even as they age.

What is the best way to find a good therapist?

I have health insurance.. How am I going to find a therapist that has thinking more along my lines (atheist) than one that is theologically oriented?
I mean, I don’t mind Christians and the like but I’d rather not waste my time with someone that is going to tell me to look to my higher power such. Because that is not an option for me.
Heh..well I guess my only therapy experience was atypical, because my psychologist kept pushing religion on me and said I “thought I was better than everyone else” because of my beliefs.

A professional counselor would never bring the religious aspect into therapy. You have to be the master of your own reality. You want a therapist that is CAAMC, certified all about me counselor. The fact you can not heal yourself means maybe there is a higher power somewhere out there. Good luck and I wish you well on your journey.

As of 2010 there are an estimated 12 million Christians in Korea. Over 100 years ago a seed was planted there that continues to grow today. In 1866 Welsh missionary to China, Robert Jermain Thomas sailed up the Taedong river near Pyongyang, Korea dressed in traditional Korean garb and carrying bibles. The ship Thomas sailed upon, an American vessel was attacked and the crew was killed. When Thoma…

Interview: Theology Professor tells about cell groups and Sunday schools in Southern Baptist Church by Peter Menkin

We talked by phone of the design of the Southern Baptist Church, and I note that it is comprised of more classroom and educational setting than worship space. That isn’t to say worship space is small. We also talked about cell groups, a recent phenomenon of Sunday school where people gather to study scripture and other related Church matters in a small group, sometimes in a home setting.

Will you tell me something of the beginnings of this “movement” in the Southern Baptist Church, and how it has grasped the imagination of Church goers?

Southern Baptists were formed in 1845 around values of winning souls, educating and training members for effective Christian living and service in the US and around the world. In 1909, a man named Arthur Flake was recruited from Mississippi to work for the Baptist Sunday School Board in Nashville. At that time, there were about a million persons in Southern Baptist Sunday schools. In forty years, that number would grow to six million and well beyond. Some of this growth was due to a book Flake wrote entitled How to Build a Standard Sunday School, which was studied by over a million Southern Baptist workers. This book taught Flake’s famous five-fold formula for Sunday school growth:

1) Know the possibilities,

2) Enlarge the organization,

3) Enlist and train leaders,

4) Expand the space, and

5) Go after the people. Southern Baptist pastors often recited the Flake mantra that “the formula works only if you work the formula!”

Who came up with the Cell Sunday School, or small group, and how have Sunday School students of various ages responded to this?

Can you tell us where in the Bay Area or even California or the U.S. where this is more popular, and something of the character of the Southern Baptist Church that takes this methodology of direction.

(I know, methodology is a big word, so if you want to provide an example to help take it out of the professional level that only the Sunday School teacher really grasps, please do. Or do most Southern Baptists grasp this Small Group or Cell Group Sunday School method today?)

Southern Baptist innovative pastor Ralph Neighbour Jr. first brought cell groups to the attention of SBC churches. He studied the tremendous growth of cell group churches in Korean and published a book called “Where Do we Go from Here?” He later backed away from the argumentative tone of the book, which really argued that cell groups and Sunday school were incompatible in the same church. His book lays out the principles and best practices for starting and multiplying cell churches.

The attraction for Southern Baptists for the cell or small group method has been fourfold. First, Southern Baptists are pragmatists and love to look into if not imitate what’s successful. It’s hard to argue with the success of the Yoida Full Gospel Church in Seoul, Korea with its near 800,000 well disciple members.

That church is based on cell groups.

Second, Baptists love what’s biblical. They want to be “New Testament churches.” The cell group or house church appears to be the norm for the spread of Christianity in the first century through the ministry of the apostles and other early missionaries.

Cell groups look more like those New Testament house churches than do Sunday School classes on church property, so many SBC churches are moving in that direction.

Third, buildings cost so it is more cost effective and less limiting to growth to simply have cells meet in homes.

Fourth, people wanting to explore Christianity are thought to be more comfortable in a home of a friend as opposed to a classroom on church property. So many SBC leaders believe that cell or small groups meeting in homes is the better way of reaching new people with the gospel.

The education of a Southern Baptist starts in the baby years, and goes through childhood to adulthood, a Discipleship program of some magnitude in conception, and thought out in a curriculum and almost systematic consideration for periods of human development. So I understand in my conversations with various people in the Church who are knowledgeable in the training and education of members, including the education of ministers. You educate ministers at Golden Gate Baptist Seminary located just north of San Francisco in Mill Valley.

As one knowledgeable in such, will you talk a little in this email correspondence about how this helps to make Southern Baptists the “Sunday School Church,” and talk a little of the emphasis for each age range in what they study or look to learn about. Please say something of the Biblical imperative, and the evangelical imperative of the Southern Baptist, if you will.

Southern Baptists (SBs) made their Sunday Schools a center for both evangelism and discipleship and built their campuses accordingly with educational space for all ages equal to or greater than worship space.

To assist this focus of the churches, the Baptist Sunday School Board (now called LifeWay Resources) publishes age-graded Bible teaching literature organized around a cyclical curriculum to cover the sixty-six books of the Bible over a five year period.

SBs were and are serious about sharing the gospel and its implications through the Sunday school and small groups. Most Sunday school leaders are trained to be aware of developmental issues at the formative stages of human development and how the gospel and knowledge of Scripture is best acquired and applied at that stage.

Churches receive coaching and training from their local or state networks called associations at the area level and conventions of churches at the state level. Most of these training events are led by women and men trained in education ministry and human development at one of the many Southern Baptist colleges or six Southern Baptist seminaries for graduate theological education and ministry training.

Most Southern Baptist pastors have a “heart for souls” meaning that they believe God’s Spirit works in the hearts of persons who receive a clear presentation of God’s love and so are drawn into a personal and enduring walk with God.

SBs believe that the mission of Jesus as God’s Son was to remove any barrier to relationship with the holy and loving God through His sacrifice on the cross outside Jerusalem 2000 years ago. It is the Spirit’s work to make that event current as conviction and commitment in lives today.

Southern Baptists are the most self-critical when it comes to whether or not people are being baptized and new churches are being started.

How can a baby go to Sunday School, or a small child? What does this mean for the baby or child?

Infants and young children go to Sunday School as brought by their parents. They learn experientially that church is a safe, loving and interesting environment. They hear music and songs of Jesus and this lays down a rich positive affective memory for their later development as they become more abstract thinkers and are able to read and learn in primary school.

The Sunday school is a large part of Christian life in the Southern Baptist Church. Please let us know why is there so much time spent on Biblical study, and how does a child get to be introduced to the Bible? Can you tell us what you tell the Sunday school Ministers what it is in Christian formation that is key to Sunday school for adult disciples and young people. Tell us, too, what is new in the life of young people in their Christian education. I understand from what I’ve been told this can mean going into the world in a missionary way to help others. What is the lesson here, and what is the need for this for a member in his religious life as a member of the Church?

One of the more interesting changes that is occurring in Sunday School and small group ministry among SBs is the movement, from students to adults, to practice “what we preach” by going on mission locally, regionally, nationally or internationally to show and share the good news.

Teenagers, college students and committed adult adults in many SBC churches regularly build homes and churches, aid at disaster relief sites, conduct training conferences related to health, life and Scripture, and conduct soccer and basketball camps.

This has become so effective that 80% of all meals cooked at Red Cross Disaster Sites are cooked by Southern Baptist volunteers. In preparation for these mission events, the volunteers are trained in personal spiritual formation.

Often called “having a quiet time,” SBs are taught and exhorted to spend time with and for God each day. Many practice the spiritual rule of well known SB evangelist, Billy Graham, “fifteen minutes a day to listen to God (read the Bible), fifteen minutes to talk with God (prayer) and fifteen minutes a day to talk with people about God (gospel evangelism).

Because SBs believe in regenerate church membership (you must have been converted to be a member) and in priesthood of the believers (all members are ministers together), pew sitting in not enough. And the key instrument for mobilizing the members into ministry has been the Sunday school.

What is the role of the Sunday School teacher or staff member in the experience of practicing what is preached?

Church leaders, whether Sunday School teachers or staff members, are the early adapters and eager interpreters of the Sunday sermons. Sometimes the subject of discussion during Sunday School is the sermon. In those instances the teacher leads the members in thinking through the implications and applications from the morning message.

The World of Henry Orient would be a classic, if only more people knew about it. Here are the adventures of two prep-school Manhattan girls, memorably played by Merrie Spaeth and Tippy Walker, who decide to dedicate a brief but crucial moment in their lives to the adoration of one Henry Orient (Peter Sellers). Orient is a concert pianist–with curiously uncertain accent–more renowned for his mist…

A Karastan Oriental Rug – Simply Stunning

We live in a world which needs more and more fast, economic and durable solutions to all our problems. History has showed us that we are capable of reinventing ourselves for the sake of comfort and speed, yet a the same time we still need to feed our spirit and thought to satisfy our vision and our touch sense. We need ergonomic houses which consume less but please more and yet we still want that personal warm and the feeling of belonging when we come home from a hard day’s work. For all of those reasons, the modern man invented the Karastan Oriental rug, which is the magic balance between the technology of the 20th century and the traditional craftsmanship of the Oriental rug weavers.

The first Karastan Oriental rug was ‘born’ in 1928, on April the 8th at 2:02 a.m. It was the beginning of brand of carpets and rugs which literally last forever. When the Marshall Field’s company invented, after 7 years of working, the first powered loom that could really imitate the hands of a seasoned master weaver they probably didn’t realize that they had worked a miracle. In a few years the whole system was perfected to the most insignificant detail. The loom could weave or tuft the carpet, the materials used were impeccable (New Zealand wool, silk etc.), skein-dyed yarns – it was fast, more accessible and of extremely high quality.

To prove that their carpets could rival any hand-made rug, they tested a large piece of Karastan Oriental rug at the World’s Fair in Chicago in the 1930’s. Instead of showing it as an exhibit, they asked the people to come and literally walk on it as much as they wished, and whenr the carpet was filthy with stains and footprints, they started to clean half of it. The result was astonishing, the difference was clear – there was a vivid contrast between the brand-new-looking half and the other which was horribly stained. Since then they have been assigned the title of “The wonder company of America”, understandably, of course. The test was repeated a few years later, this time 9 million people walked on a Karastan Oriental rug and history repeated itself; it will surely keep repeating it, because Karastan seems to reinvent itself periodically.

Karastan has passed from the first, axminster loom, to other, more sophisticated and more efficient looms, it has also improved the material used, the techniques and the pattern. Nowadays there are considerable collections of Karastan Oriental Rugs which will meet even the highest expectations, the most exigent tastes and the most strict artistic requirements.

Diversity is the key to success and Karastan Oriental rugs are available in a wide range of designs, in rich colors, pale or bright, with elegant contrast and gracefully shaped patterns. They are warranted for 20 years for manufacturing defects and with proper care they moths and insects will never touch them. Most certainly, a Karastan Oriental rug is the much-needed detail for the house of the 21st century man.
